Location

L'etang du Morinais is in southern Brittany, North West France. Located on the border between Ille et Vilaine and Loire Atlantique, Departments 35 and 44 respectively. To reach La Morinais by car, the lake is approximately 7 hrs from Bolougne, 4 hrs from Le Havre, 3 hrs from Cherbourg, 2.5 hrs from Caen and 1.5 hrs from St Malo. The nearest airports are Rennes St Jacques (45 mins away by road) and Nantes Atlantique (1 hr 10mins).

When looking on a map, La Morinais is roughly mid way between the cities of Rennes and Nantes. Find the N137 route which heads directly south off the Rennes ring road, towards Nantes. At the Grand Fougeray exit (D59), the lake is a further 20 mins heading south west, 22kms east of Redon.

Ferry services are offered by Brittany Ferries, from Portsmouth to Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo. LD Lines operate a much cheaper alternative on the Portsmouth-Le Havre route. Condor Ferries also operate ferries to St Malo out of Poole and Weymouth.

Flybe operate flights into Rennes (RNS) from Southampton (SOU), Exeter (EXT), Belfast (BHD), Manchester (MAN) and Newcastle (NCL). Ryanair operate flights into Nantes. Air France also operate flights into Nantes (NTE), although usually far more expensive.

With cheaper flights now available, more anglers are flying into France with their tackle in the aircraft hold. Check respective websites for details and pricing. Flying times from southern England are around 1 hr. Airport pick ups and drop offs can be arranged.
